Overview

When an Armed Officer Makes Sense

An armed officer is not the right answer for every property, and we will tell you when it isn't. Armed coverage costs more, carries more liability, and changes how visitors feel when they walk in. But for some sites the risk justifies it: businesses that handle cash or high-value inventory, properties that have had robberies or assaults, late-night operations in isolated areas, and locations where unarmed officers have been threatened.

Every armed officer we assign holds a Texas Department of Public Safety security officer commission (Level III) under our company license, C10584701. That means a DPS background check, the state's commissioned officer course and firearms qualification before they ever stand post, plus our own site orientation before the first shift.

Our armed officers are trained to deter and de-escalate first. The firearm is the last tool, not the first. On most nights, good armed work looks a lot like good unarmed work: watching, walking the property, talking to people, writing things down and calling police early.

Our Process

How We Set Up Armed Coverage

  1. Site assessment

We walk the property, review past incidents and ask your staff when and where problems happen.

  2. The right mix

One armed officer at peak hours plus unarmed coverage the rest of the night is often the smarter spend. We'll show you both options.

  3. Written post orders

Duties, patrol routes, contacts, use-of-force limits, and exactly when police get called.

  4. Reports & review

Daily activity and incident reports, with regular check-ins so coverage changes when your risk changes.

FAQ

Common Questions

What license does an armed security officer need in Texas?

Armed security officers must hold a security officer commission from the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Program, commonly called a Level III license. It requires the state commissioned officer course, firearms qualification and a background check, and the officer must work for a licensed security company like ours (TXDPS# C10584701).

Is armed security more expensive than unarmed?

Yes. Armed officers carry more training, licensing and insurance cost, so the hourly rate is higher. Many clients use armed officers only during the highest-risk hours and unarmed officers the rest of the time. We'll price both so you can compare.

Will armed guards make my customers or residents uncomfortable?

It depends on the site. We assign officers with a professional, approachable manner and can adjust where they're posted to fit your property. If we think unarmed coverage will do the job, we'll tell you.

Can armed officers make arrests?

Security officers in Texas are not police. Their authority to detain someone is limited, the same as any private citizen's. Our officers are trained to observe, deter, document and call law enforcement rather than chase people or make arrests. That keeps situations from escalating and limits your liability.

How quickly can you start?

It depends on the schedule and the number of officers you need. For urgent situations, call 817-703-1635 and we'll give you a realistic start date on the call.
